Gold in East AFRICA | Our ONGROUND PRESENCE IN EAST AFRICA'S GOLD MINING REGIONS
Gold in East Africa remains one of the world’s fastest-growing gold mineral discoveries. With countries like Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo collectively contributing tonnes of gold to regional and international markets every year.
From the Lake Victoria Goldfields to the mineral-rich provinces of eastern Congo, the region hosts extensive artisanal mining communities alongside major industrial operations driving Africa’s gold economy.
At Gold Source Africa, our onground presence across East Africa’s key mining regions allows us to build trusted local partnerships. Furthermore, support transparent sourcing, and connect global buyers directly to reliable gold supply networks.

TANZANIA
Tanzania is one of Africa’s leading gold-producing countries, with mining operations spread across regions such as Geita, Shinyanga, Mara, Mwanza, and Chunya. Gold is mined through both large-scale industrial operations and extensive artisanal mining. Industrial mines use open-pit and underground mining systems supported by advanced processing technologies, while artisanal miners rely on manual extraction and small-scale ore processing methods.

UGANDA
Artisanal and small-scale mining activities drive Uganda’s gold sector largely. Concentrated in regions such as Karamoja (North), Mubende (Central), Busia( East), and Buhweju. Gold is commonly mined through shallow pit excavation, alluvial mining, and small underground operations using manual tools and semi-mechanized equipment. In recent years, Uganda has also grown into an important regional gold trading and refining hub within East Africa.

Democratic Republic of Congo
The DRC hosts some of Africa’s richest gold reserves, particularly in provinces such as Ituri, South Kivu, Haut-Uele, and Maniema. Gold mining is carried out through a combination of industrial mining projects and widespread artisanal mining activities. Artisanal miners commonly extract gold from alluvial deposits, shallow pits, and underground shafts using traditional techniques, while industrial operations use modern extraction and processing systems .

KENYA
Gold mining in Kenya is primarily carried out through artisanal mining communities located in western regions such as Migori, Kakamega, and Siaya. Miners extract gold from hard-rock deposits and river sediments using traditional methods including hand digging, crushing, and sluicing. Although Kenya’s gold industry remains relatively small compared to neighboring countries, exploration activity and small-scale production continue to grow.
